VFI President claims VAT destroying local tourism

VFI blames lack of local tourism on price of VAT

The President of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, Paul Stevenson of Ballymote, has claimed the local tourism trade is being devastated by the level of VAT being charged on services.

Mr Stevenson has blamed Government policy for driving up the cost of living in Ireland.

He says visitors here are staggered by the price of alcohol in pubs as compared with the rest of Europe.

Mr Stevenson was commenting during the VFI's annual conference in Monaghan yesterday.
