Staff uniforms say a lot about your business. A smart, clean, well fitting uniform portrays a professional impression of your business to your customers. In a Food & Beverage business, the customers expect a clean, uniformed member of waiting staff to serve their order. Just as customers buy with their eyes (when seeing a dessert passing to another table, it never fails to draw glances…), they will also judge your establishment based on the impression they receive front of house.
Don’t expect to sell too many sandwiches if the staff all wear grubby jeans and dirty t-shirts. After all, if this us how standards are maintained where customers can see, one can only imagine the poor standards being maintained in the kitchen and washing-up area. So do your business a favour and invest in the best uniforms you can afford. One of the traits of good salespeople is that they are always well dressed. When they get into their suits, they assume the sales persona, the pitch and the technique to convert potential clients into paying customers. Similarly, your staff will assume your policies and procedures easier when dressed in the standard uniform and will feel more comfortable dealing with customers.
A smart uniform also exudes authority and customers will feel comfortable knowing that there is a figure of authority on duty in the establishment.
So consider your uniform choice carefully and don’t necessarily agree to the first offer of free t-shirts from the local beer supplier until you know what message you want your uniforms to transmit.
